Nando’s is a world-famous South African fast-casual restaurant chain best known for its Portuguese-style flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken. The brand was founded in 1987 in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, by Fernando Duarte and Robert Brozin. After tasting spicy chicken from a small takeaway restaurant called Chickenland, they bought the business and renamed it Nando’s after Fernando’s son.
Known for its famous Rooster of Barcelos logo, Nando’s has grown from one small restaurant into a global brand with more than 1,200 locations in over 30 countries. South Africa remains the company’s main home market, with more than 300 restaurants nationwide.
Nando’s is also popular for its people-focused company culture, creative and humorous advertising campaigns, and strong support for Southern African art and culture.
